NASA Launches Beta Site; On-Demand Streaming, App Update On The Way

NASA Launches Beta Site; On-Demand Streaming and an Application Update Are on the Way

NASA is improving its digital platforms by redesigning its flagship and science websites, launching its first on-demand streaming service, and upgrading the NASA app. With these changes, everyone will have access to a new world of content from the space agency. Users can access the early, in-progress preview of the beta website now and are encouraged to visit and submit feedback.

This new online experience is an ever-expanding yet consolidated information center. It contains information on the agency’s missions and research, climatic data, Artemis updates, and more. With a common search engine and integrated navigation, the new nasa.gov and science.nasa.gov websites provide a connected, topic-driven experience. It will also provide a modernized and secure set of web tools with optimized publishing capabilities.

“Our vision is to inspire humanity through a unified, world-class NASA web experience,” said Jeff Seaton, chief information officer at the agency’s headquarters in Washington. “NASA’s legacy footprint presents an opportunity to improve the user experience for the public we serve dramatically. Modernizing our main websites from a technology standpoint and streamlining how the public engages with our content online are critical first steps in making our agency’s information more accessible, discoverable, and secure.”

NASA will continue to update and improve the beta site as it receives input from website visitors. Once completely launched, the online content from popular agency websites will be included to provide easier, integrated access to NASA information currently found across the agency’s many websites.

Additionally, NASA will launch its new on-demand streaming platform NASA+. Users can access NASA’s Emmy Award-winning live coverage and view its missions through collections of original video series. This includes a handful of new series launching with the streaming service. Furthermore, the platform will be ad-free, no-cost, and family-friendly.

“We’re putting space on demand and at your fingertips with NASA’s new streaming platform,” said Marc Etkind, associate administrator, Office of Communications, NASA Headquarters. “Transforming our digital presence will help us better tell the stories of how NASA explores the unknown in air and space, inspires through discovery, and innovates for the benefit of humanity.”

NASA will continue connecting other agency websites and multimedia libraries into this new experience to streamline information delivered across its centers, missions, and programs. It will share science, research, exploration, and innovation with the world through cohesive platforms with a more prominent digital presence. NASA+ will be available on most major platforms through the NASA App for iOS and Android mobile and tablet devices and streaming media players such as Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, and the web on desktop and mobile platforms.
