Singapore-based semiconductor company Silicon Box has recently raised $200 million in a series B funding round. Its various investors include BRV Capital, Event Horizon Capital, Lam Capital, and TDK Ventures. The co-founders of Silicon Box, Sehat Sutardja, Weili Dai, and Byung-joon Han, also contributed to the $200 million series B funding round. This investment has catapulted the company’s valuation past the $1 billion mark. This achievement has granted the company the highly sought-after status of “unicorn” within the startup industry.
Silicon Box has stated that traditional packaging methods for semiconductor chips have been costly and have limited performance, providing an advantage to well-funded players in the industry. However, the company believes that its chiplet technology can overcome these limitations by providing improved performance, reduced device size, and increased reliability.
Silicon Box plans to use the new funding to expand its chiplet technology globally and support the development of various technologies, including large language models, generative AI, mobile computing, data centers, and automotive technology. They also announced that their $2 billion factory in Singapore has been mass-producing chiplets for early customers since October 2023. Moreover, the company has increased hiring to support 24/7 operations at the 750,000-square-foot facility, which was opened in July 2023.
