Former WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar Joins Roblox’s Board
Roblox, the popular online gaming platform, has made an addition to its board of directors. On September 13, Jason Kilar, the former CEO of WarnerMedia, officially joined the board. The appointment welcomes Kilar alongside board chairman and Roblox CEO David Baszucki, lead independent director Anthony P. Lee, and fellow board members Gregory Baszucki, Christopher Carvalho, Gina Mastantuono, and Andrea Wong.
Kilar brings over 15 years of experience as a chief executive in the media and entertainment industry to Roblox. Before his role at WarnerMedia, he co-founded and led the subscription video service Vessel. Kilar also played a pivotal role in co-founding and serving as the CEO of Hulu before joining the board of directors at DreamWorks Animation in 2013.
Meeting the Changing Demographics
Roblox’s decision to bring Jason Kilar on board aligns with the company’s evolving user demographics. As the platform’s user base matures, Roblox seeks to cater to a slightly older audience. Recent announcements at the company’s annual developer conference include plans for avatar-based voice calls, catering to users aged 17 and up.
Roblox envisions a future where users can leverage generative AI tools to customize avatars and clothing using text prompts. Additionally, the company is gaining traction in the virtual reality (VR) realm, with its Meta Quest VR app surpassing 1 million downloads.
Jason Kilar’s experience in the entertainment and media industry is expected to provide invaluable insights and guidance to Roblox as it navigates the challenges of serving diverse audience demographics from a single platform.
