Max to Stream AMC+ Shows in New Deal
From September 1st until October 31st, some AMC+ shows like “Fear the Walking Dead” and “Killing Eve” will temporarily be available on Max. This agreement benefits both AMC+ and Max by enhancing their content offerings. With Hollywood strikes causing production stoppages and AMC encountering challenges in cable TV, both companies stand to gain from this deal.
President of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks, Dan McDermott, said in the statement:
“This promotional arrangement with Warner Bros. Discovery is a terrific opportunity to serve up some of our most popular and critically acclaimed programming to millions of Max subscribers in the U.S. for two full months.”
Max will showcase the AMC+ series in a special section called “AMC+ Picks on Max.” Notably, no matter what your Max subscription type is, there won’t be any ads. Only seven specific shows are confirmed to come to Max.
Here are the selected shows:
- Fear the Walking Dead (Seasons 1-7)
- Dark Winds (Season 1)
- Killing Eve (Seasons 1-4)
- Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampire (Season 1)
- Gangs of London (Seasons 1-2)
- A Discovery of Witches (Seasons 1-3)
- Ride with Norman Reedus (Seasons 1-5)
AMC Plus has experienced many problems increasing its subscriber base amid a crowded streaming landscape. Furthermore, the decline of cable TV hasn’t helped. In the second quarter, it revealed a decrease in subscribers, down to 11 million from its aim of 20-25 million by 2025. Despite having rights to popular shows like “The Walking Dead,” “Mad Men,” and “Hell on Wheels” and producing original content, AMC Plus struggled a lot. In addition, AMC Networks has cable channels like BBC America and IFC, as well as the horror service Shudder.
To enhance its prospects, AMC will introduce an ad-supported tier in October. They have collaborated with platforms like Roku, Amazon Prime Video, and Apple TV. Featuring its shows on Max, with its large subscriber base, could bring more attention to AMC Plus content, but whether it will lead to more subscribers is not confirmed yet.
