Korean internet giant Naver introduces generative AI services

Naver, a South Korean internet search company, released HyperCLOVA X. HyperCLOVA X is a generative AI tool. The business’s large language model (LLM) provides services including:

• CLOVA X is an AI chatbot similar to ChatGPT.
• Cue a  generative AI-based search engine identical to Microsoft Bing.

The Naver Cloud introduced HyperCLOVA X, the company’s cloud division. On August 24, CLOVA X’s beta service in English and Korean began. Cue is going to merge into the current Naver search engine in November. Before that, it will be available for beta testing in September. Enterprise clients and authors can purchase HyperCLOVA X. Its prior LLM for the Korean language, HyperCLOVA was improved and released in 2021 as HyperCLOVA X. Naver claims that there are over 204 billion parameters in HyperCLOVA, but it did not specify how many of those parameters had been trained on the HyperCLOVA X. (Users must create Naver accounts to utilize HyperCLOVA X, according to the firm.)

Naver Cloud’s Future Objectives:

According to the CEO of Naver, SooYeon Choi, the company employs more than 500 AI professionals. It is one of only five businesses globally to have created a huge language model with over 100 billion parameters. According to Nako Sung, Head of Technology and Hypersacale AI at Naver Cloud, the firm is also creating CLOVA X’s multimodal language models, which will be able to analyze and produce text, pictures, videos, and audio. Sung made this announcement at the company’s conference on Thursday. Sung claims that Naver will unveil the Clova X multimodal language model soon.

Global IT companies are launching their generative AI solutions to keep ahead of Naver’s generative AI deployment. Microsoft’s backing of OpenAI has fueled competition in generative AI. In addition to investing in Anthropic and releasing Bard, Google also created Ernie Bot. According to reports, organizations like Meta and Amazon are preparing to introduce AI-powered chatbots. In November, according to Choi, addressing the conference, the South Korean internet giant will launch GAK Sejong, its second data center, with 600,000 servers for its generative AI services. Since last December, Naver has been collaborating with Samsung to create AI processors for hyperscale AI.
