Sony acquires Audeze, a gaming headphone manufacturer

Sony Interactive Entertainment, the PlayStation arm, is planning to purchase Audeze. Audeze is a California-based high-end headphone company primarily known for its gamer and audio producer-focused products. While the purchase won’t immediately bring platform exclusivity, Audeze will still make headphones for competitors like Xbox. We can expect PlayStation-branded products in the future. SIE SVP Hideaki Nishino said;

“Audeze is a premier brand for headphones, and this acquisition highlights Sony Interactive’s focus on innovation and providing the best audio experience to PlayStation players. We’re excited to bring Audeze’s expertise into the PlayStation ecosystem, building on the great strides we’ve made with PlayStation 5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech and the Pulse 3D wireless headset.”

Audeze believes the deal will increase its reach, benefiting from Sony’s extensive influence. CEO Sankar Thiagasamudram said;

“Sony Interactive provides Audeze with a unique opportunity to scale our business, as we continue with our mission to deliver best-in-class headphones to recording professionals, audiophiles and gamers. We’re also looking forward to contributing to Sony Interactive’s efforts to take PlayStation audio experiences to the next level.”

Besides gaming products, Audeze also manufactures speakerphones and professional audio equipment. Sony is also launching Portal, a $200 portable PS5 streaming device. Sony has verified that the Audeze brand will persist and retain offices in Orange County. The financial details are not disclosed yet due to contractual obligations.
