AMD Strengthens AI Capabilities with Acquisition of Nod.ai

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), a global leader in high-performance computing and silicon technology, is enhancing its open-source AI capabilities. The company announced its agreement to acquire Nod.ai, an expert in open-source AI software. This strategic move aims to bolster AMD’s position in the AI ecosystem, enabling the easier deployment of high-performance AI models.

Nod.ai, founded in 2013, has carved a niche in the AI landscape by developing a robust software ecosystem that includes developer tools, libraries, and models. Additionally, these tools streamline the deployment of AI solutions on AMD’s extensive array of silicon offerings, such as,

  • Ryzen AI processors
  • EPYC processors
  • Radeon GPUs
  • Versal SoCs

Under the leadership of Victor Peng, President of Adaptive and Embedded Computing Group at AMD, the company strives to unify its programming model for various computing platforms. This strategic alignment paves the way for a cohesive software portfolio that integrates seamlessly with Nod.ai’s open-source AI software.

Nod.ai brings an arsenal of technologies, notably its Shark compiler-based automation software. This software expedites the deployment of AI models, working seamlessly across AMD’s CPUs, GPUs, and FPGAs. Furthermore, it is versatile and compatible with various operating systems, including Windows, MacOS, and Linux.

Vamsi Boppana, the senior vice president of the AI Group at AMD, believes that the acquisition of Nod.ai will play a pivotal role in significantly bolstering AMD’s ability to provide open software for AI deployment.
