Google unveils next Gen-AI model called Gemini
Google has recently announced the launch of Gemini Pro. A new generative AI model marks a significant step in the AI development journey. Gemini Pro is a forerunner to the more advanced Gemini model expected in 2024.
The Google DeepMind team has worked with Google Research to introduce Gemini during a virtual press briefing. Gemini is not a single model but a collection of models created for a different application. These include
- Gemini Ultra, the flagship model
- Gemini Pro, a lite version of the Gemini model
- Gemini Nano is a version created for mobile devices like Pixel 8 Pro. The Nano variant has two models, Nano-1 and Nano-2, catering to devices with varying memory capacities.
Google is at the forefront of Gen AI.
Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, showed his joy about Gemini, “This new era of models represents one of the biggest science and engineering efforts we’ve undertaken as a company. I’m genuinely excited for what’s ahead and the opportunities Gemini will unlock for people everywhere.”
Google’s rival to ChatGPT, Bard, allows users to test Gemini Pro. This makes it the largest update on Bard since its launch. The model will be available in English in over 170 countries. Gemini Pro will be available through Vertex AI for enterprise customers starting 13 December 2023.
For Gemini, this is just the start
Demis Hassabis, CEO and Co-Founder of Google DeepMind, said, “We’ve made great progress on Gemini so far, and we’re working hard to further extend its capabilities for future versions, including advances in planning and memory and increasing the context window for processing even more information to give better responses.”
Google was built from scratch to combine different types of information, including text, code, audio, image, and video. Videos show the capabilities of creating complex code and explaining reasoning in maths and physics. Gemini has been involved in being at the forefront of the generative AI space, even though the model currently only serves English and not other languages.
